Drawing from Nedovic’s ancestral ties to Montenegro and the Dalmatian coast, Monument draws on the Brutalist Spomenik memorials built across the former Yugoslavia between the 1950s and 1990s – bold, unorthodox structures that stood as symbols of memory, resistance, and hope.
This series distils their presence into wall-mounted sculptures — commanding yet calm tunnels that evoke the idea of light as optimism, quite literally glowing at their ends. The arched forms echo the silhouette of an organ or a flute – sonic and spiritual motifs that offer a kind of peace and pause.
Made by hand from unglazed white sculpting clay, each piece carries the rhythmic geometries and meditative repetition that define Nedovic’s work. Designed as singular monoliths or stacked compositions, Monument bridges personal heritage with architectural form in this intimate, illuminating piece.

The Spomenik monuments scattered across the landscapes of former Yugoslavia are a profound reference for my Monument lighting series. These sculptural forms, at once futuristic and ancient, speak in a language that transcends function, history, and place. Their silent grandeur, and their ability to hold memory and presence through scale, rhythm, and abstraction.
Each piece in the Monument collection carries a sense of weight and stillness, echoing the architectural gravitas of the Spomenik while transforming it into a luminous, tactile experience.
Built to commemorate an intense 1942 civil battle, the monument draws visitors through narrow slits in its concrete fins into a dark, compact interior. Light falls from an opening above, intensifying the monument’s charged and contemplative atmosphere.
